How to Make Good Fast Food Choices

By jhorsley

We all like to indulge our palettes some time or the other by dining out at a fast food restaurant. It is not a bad idea to eat out provided you know the right types of food you should eat. Choose the place with care. Make sure they have the kind of fast food you like. In other words, go to a restaurant that can cater to your needs.

Start with researching various food chains’ web site. You will get a lot of information on the nutritional value of the foods they serve. Watch out for it takes just one visit to the fast food restaurant to amass extra calories and saturated fats. Sometimes the lists are a little too detailed and may baffle you. But do not get deterred by this.

Pay close attention to your food. Make the right choice. Salads are good but the dressing packs a gigantic punch of fat into you. Similarly cheese or sour creams and even spreads can do a lethal damage and ruin all your efforts in losing weight. Order a grilled chicken sandwich minus the mayonnaise. This is one effective way to make a good choice of food at a fast food restaurant.

Foods that are described as deliciously deep fried or pan fried are a definite no-no. So also any food that is “batter dipped”, “crispy” or “creamy” spells disaster for your body. It’s being sensible and looking for the healthier food that’s important for you. . With more and more people getting health and weight conscious a lot of fast food restaurants are making a deliberate choice to tailor their menu to suit the individuals.

Fast food restaurants add a little too much salt, which can harm rather than aid your health. High blood pressure can be caused by high levels of sodium content in foods.
Another major add on to your calorie intake is the soda that can amount for a large percentage of your body fat. Choose unsweetened iced tea or water with lemon to go with your meals. Make a premeditated effort to live and eat healthy.

Its fun to diet when you have someone else dieting with you. If you do have a friend who can share your kind of food take them with you. One portion served at these restaurants is enough to feed two individuals. If you go alone then get half your meals packed. You can always give it to your colleague or freeze it for another day.

Every morsel you eat must be savored and enjoyed to help you restrict the amount of food you eat. Be conscious when you are just about full, stop eating. Broiled and steamed food is always better than the yummy fried food you will anyway regret eating.

Buffets just encourage you to eat for your money’s worth. It’s best to wait out for about fifteen minutes before you go back for a second helping.

  1. Great information!!! So many people rely on grabbing a quick meal from fast food places and are easily deceived that they are making a good choice.

  2. I stop at about 3 places to get what I want. 1 place for the sandwich/chicken/whatever, 1 more for the drink (usually a shake) and 1 more stop for the fries or onion rings. I know the best places in town to get the "best of whatever I'm after. They're always good and being I'm a teacher, the students working there hook me up (if ya know what I mean). Example: I'll order a small shake and they give me a large, etc.

  3. I have no choice but to eat fast food while on the road. I am so sick of subway tho. What would be the healthiest fast food choice while on the road...?
